One Night Stand Goes Awry in Lockdown Boston →
And what was meant to be a discreet exit was now an agonizingly gratuitous small-scale walk of shame across the apartment from the bedroom to the bathroom. I paused in the living room to offer up an uncomfortable morning salutation to the roommate, who sat on the couch wearing a robe and a distinct “who the hell is this guy?” look on her face. Yup.

but gahdamn, by the sounds of it, they REALLY done fucked up with Into Darkness
like, even worse than predicted, if that was even possible
hopefully the shittacular box office showing torpedoes any hope of sequels and gets JJA off of Star Wars, bc yeah, we don’t need some more Michael Bay-style sci-fi

After making a mere $84 million at the U.S. box office, Star Trek Into Darkness is considered by some to be a disappointment. Perhaps the problem is that it was a touch confusing. To help our readers better understand it, we’ve complied and answered these Frequently Asked Questions about the movie.
Maximum spoilers ahead…

I was testing out my pistol’s LAM earlier, and I pointed it at my monitor where it reflected back into my eye.

what does the future hold for us
This is one of my major gripes (and one of LeVar’s major gripes, apparently) with the series. In a future, where the world is all about its science and tech, how is the CHIEF ENGINEER of the Federation’s FLAGSHIP not, just, constantly getting laid?!?!
I thought about...
One Ruger MkIII + One Sig Sauer SP2022 + two earmuffs + one pair safety glasses + 1000rds .22LR + 400rds 9mm in one range bag = poor man’s dumbbells.
Cheap way to do some curls while watching Friends. Exercise would be so much better if gyms could accommodate laziness like this. It’s not the exercise I hate but the boredom.
My thoughts from that one scene from last night’s The Office finale:

Evangelion, and why Hideaki Anno hates you
chirart:
Real talk: if you never actually watched Neon Genesis Evangelion all the way through, everything you know about it is wrong.
Although for that matter, even the people who watched it all the way through are wrong about it.
Let’s talk about the creator: Hideaki Anno, and why he’s happiest when you are angry.

Always reblog Donna.
“The F Word” is now on Hulu. Fomg, one of my favorite shows ever. They only have the first three seasons, but if you like food I highly recommend this show.
Oh, I also highly recommend you eat before watching, otherwise you’re going to be having so many cravings.
So this will be a post on last night’s HIMYM episode, so spoilers after the post break

I am really in love with the big reveal. S8 was when they started developing the life of The Mother. Before that, she was hinted at as this momentous event in Ted’s life, a viewpoint that made me a bit uncomfortable.
The Mother is her own person. She’s had her own life alongside...

So I just put a Sig Pro 2022 in jail. I now have the same one as Jason Bourne :D Does this mean that I will soon acquire his powers?
Ahhhhhhh Community got renewed for a 5th season! :D Oh my god I am amazingly happy right now.
Slightly sad that Go On was cancelled (Okay show, but Matt Perry was great in it), but the news about Community more than makes up for it.
I just watched Community’s season finale and don’t know if it’s coming back for another season. Oh god I feel sadder than any sane person should for a TV show D:

All I want is an episode of My Little Pony where the antagonist is male pony with a fedora cutie mark who goes around harassing everyone for pursuing their own interests instead of dating him and then the mane 6 use the elements of harmony to banish him to an actual place called the friendzone and where he is kept prisoner until he learns to appreciate having girls as friends and...
While I was still on track for graduate school, my cousins shared the following story about her time as a PhD candidate:
My cousin went into her grad program with a PI already in place, a lab ready to accept her, and funding waiting for her. Despite all this, for three years every thesis she proposed was shot down. Her PI kept explaining that my cousin couldn’t “see the forest for...

It took me two hours to figure out how to install Windows 7 on my new laptop. Oh god D:
My new Series 9 just came in. Holy shit this thing is thin. This laptop makes the Macbook Air look obese.
Sleep schedule reset! :D Slept at midnight and woke up at 7, instead of going to bed at 7. Woohoo!
To the guys at Microsoft who saw the horizontal scrolling for the app store and the always-on gesture for the Charm bar:
I hope someone on your teams fork bombs your servers.
Why do they hate trackpad/mouse users so much…
Yea, Windows 8 is a huge mess for anyone with a touchpad and no touchscreen. The UI is obviously made for touchscreens but unfortunately what’s great for touchscreens is horrible for touchpads.
On an unrelated note, my computer names thus far are:
Intrepid (Laptop W8), Defiant (Laptop W7), Nova (Laptop Ubuntu), Sovereign (Desktop W7), and Constellation (Desktop Ubuntu).

Two years ago, I was in the lab grabbing some dry ice for an experiment. In my rush I forgot a container to keep the dry ice in, but I had 15mL Falcon tubes left in my pocket so I put the dry ice in there. Not wanting the chunks to fall out in my lab coat, I capped them and went back to my bench.
I had to get more supplies so I left the Falcon tubes on the bench while I went to the supply room....
The past few days I’ve been having frequent yet brief bouts of dizziness and lightheadedness (lasts 1-2 seconds, happens about once a minute). I’ve also been having vivid nightmares and mild vertigo.
I was worried as hell I might be having a stroke or something. Turns out, it was just SSRI withdrawal.
Fun fact: It’s not fun to get your wallet stolen and lose access to your...
Sigma is releasing an 18-35mm f/1.8 lens. Constant f/1.8 across the entire focal range. Oh my god I want it.
Alien-Looking Skeleton Poses Medical Mystery
ziyadmd:
A teensy skeleton with a squashed alien-like head may have earthly origins, but the remains, found in the Atacama Desert a decade ago, do make for quite a medical mystery.
Apparently when the mummified specimen was discovered, some had suggested the possibility it was an alien that had somehow landed on Earth, though the researchers involved never suggested this otherworldly origin.

4:30 AM. I have my law student friend’s class notes open on one monitor, my design major friend’s typography class project assignments open in another, a WIP app design I’m making “just ‘cause” on my laptop, and various articles on starting a company in SV open on my tablet.

I really want to watch Pacific Rim, in no small part for Ellen McLain and her GLaDOS voice.
I also think we need to start investing money into developing giant robots. It’s 2013 and I’ve yet to see an Eva, Gundam, or any other form of giant mech. Come on people, where’s the future I was promised?!

I’ve been considering LASIK lately, but I just found out that there’s a blade involved that cuts a flap into your cornea.
Nope, nope no nope fuckkkk no. I’m out.
Ophthalmology is the only medical branch that can seriously creep me out. I’d rather do ten disimpactions than watch a single video of an ophthalmology surgery.

So Lamar Smith (R-TX) is introducing a bill requiring the NSF to start awarding grants purely on how “groundbreaking” the research will be. This is the same Smith that sponsored both SOPA and PCIP. The basis of this is to start looking at grants from an economic cost/benefit perspective.
The problem is this simply doesn’t work. The UK tried to do this with the Research...
Writing a good friend an email on your experiences with depression, antidepressants, etc. really reminds you how broken you are.
What’s also fun is stumbling on an AskReddit on “What is one thing your partner does regularly that makes you realize they’re still in love with you?” and the only person you’ve dated who you can write about in that thread no longer talks...
I feel like writing emails to look for jobs should not be this anxiety-inducing…
