One Night Stand Goes Awry in Lockdown Boston →
And what was meant to be a discreet exit was now an agonizingly gratuitous small-scale walk of shame across the apartment from the bedroom to the bathroom. I paused in the living room to offer up an uncomfortable morning salutation to the roommate, who sat on the couch wearing a robe and a distinct “who the hell is this guy?” look on her face. Yup.

wanderingsong: but gahdamn, by the sounds of it, they REALLY done fucked up with Into Darkness like, even worse than predicted, if that was even possible hopefully the shittacular box office showing torpedoes any hope of sequels and gets JJA off of Star Wars, bc yeah, we don’t need some more Michael Bay-style sci-fi tell ‘em, Yoda.

wanderingsong: chocolate-alchemy: fuck-it-fire-everything: After making a mere $84 million at the U.S. box office, Star Trek Into Darkness is considered by some to be a disappointment. Perhaps the problem is that it was a touch confusing. To help our readers better understand it, we’ve complied and answered these Frequently Asked Questions about the movie. One Ruger MkIII + One Sig Sauer SP2022 + two earmuffs + one pair safety glasses + 1000rds .22LR + 400rds 9mm in one range bag = poor man’s dumbbells. Cheap way to do some curls while watching Friends. Exercise would be so much better if gyms could accommodate laziness like this. It’s not the exercise I hate but the boredom.

Evangelion, and why Hideaki Anno hates you
chirart: Real talk: if you never actually watched Neon Genesis Evangelion all the way through, everything you know about it is wrong. Although for that matter, even the people who watched it all the way through are wrong about it. Let’s talk about the creator: Hideaki Anno, and why he’s happiest when you are angry. Read More

“The F Word” is now on Hulu. Fomg, one of my favorite shows ever. They only have the first three seasons, but if you like food I highly recommend this show. Oh, I also highly recommend you eat before watching, otherwise you’re going to be having so many cravings.

So this will be a post on last night’s HIMYM episode, so spoilers after the post break [[MORE]] I am really in love with the big reveal. S8 was when they started developing the life of The Mother. Before that, she was hinted at as this momentous event in Ted’s life, a viewpoint that made me a bit uncomfortable. The Mother is her own person. She’s had her own life alongside...

While I was still on track for graduate school, my cousins shared the following story about her time as a PhD candidate: My cousin went into her grad program with a PI already in place, a lab ready to accept her, and funding waiting for her. Despite all this, for three years every thesis she proposed was shot down. Her PI kept explaining that my cousin couldn’t “see the forest for...

Two years ago, I was in the lab grabbing some dry ice for an experiment. In my rush I forgot a container to keep the dry ice in, but I had 15mL Falcon tubes left in my pocket so I put the dry ice in there. Not wanting the chunks to fall out in my lab coat, I capped them and went back to my bench. I had to get more supplies so I left the Falcon tubes on the bench while I went to the supply room....

Alien-Looking Skeleton Poses Medical Mystery
ziyadmd: A teensy skeleton with a squashed alien-like head may have earthly origins, but the remains, found in the Atacama Desert a decade ago, do make for quite a medical mystery. Apparently when the mummified specimen was discovered, some had suggested the possibility it was an alien that had somehow landed on Earth, though the researchers involved never suggested this otherworldly origin. ...

I really want to watch Pacific Rim, in no small part for Ellen McLain and her GLaDOS voice. I also think we need to start investing money into developing giant robots. It’s 2013 and I’ve yet to see an Eva, Gundam, or any other form of giant mech. Come on people, where’s the future I was promised?!

I’ve been considering LASIK lately, but I just found out that there’s a blade involved that cuts a flap into your cornea. Nope, nope no nope fuckkkk no. I’m out. So Lamar Smith (R-TX) is introducing a bill requiring the NSF to start awarding grants purely on how “groundbreaking” the research will be. This is the same Smith that sponsored both SOPA and PCIP. The basis of this is to start looking at grants from an economic cost/benefit perspective. The problem is this simply doesn’t work. The UK tried to do this with the Research...
